Farmsecure was a large agricultural group of companies in South Africa represented throughout the agricultural value chain from 2005 to 2013.
Privately owned, Farmsecure was founded in 2004, following years of change in the South African agricultural sector. At this time, Jerome Yazbek, founder and CEO, was approached by a group of South African farmers, seeking a model for sustainable and profitable agriculture in South Africa.
Farmsecure’s unique and innovative model was founded on four operational principles: • Scientific farming • Working capital • Risk mitigation and • Price guarantee
In less than a decade Farmsecure grew from 2 to over 4700 employees with a turnover of over R5bn. The Farmsecure family of companies and partner operations where represented throughout South Africa’s nine provinces and encompassed the entire agricultural value chain, including primary agricultural, agricultural inputs and agricultural sciences. In 2012 Farmsecure housed the largest grouping of in-field agricultural scientists in Africa, servicing over 1m ha of agricultural land globally.
Farmsecure’s stated vision was to be a meaningful contributor to securing the world’s food supply by creating sustainable and profitable agricultural enterprises, where the process is optimized from ‘farm to shelf’. In 2013 the Group was sold off to various stakeholders.
